After two losses, Al Ahli silenced critics with a convincing 3-0 victory over Al Riyadh, regaining its winning form. The Saudi Professional League’s twelfth round saw The Green of Jeddah dominate their visitors.
Al Ahli had a good start to the round, taking advantage of Al Taawoun‘s draw with Damac and Al Fateh’s defeat by Al Hilal. With this win, Al Ahli moves up to 25 points, matching Al Taawoun’s total and keeping a 3-point advantage over Al Nassr, who came in second.
The star of the show was Maestro Firas Al-Buraikan, who was selected as the starting striker by German coach Matthias Jaissle. Al-Buraikan scored in less than two minutes, sparking the team’s supporters’ early celebrations at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium.
In the 26th minute, Spanish player Gabri Veiga scored the second goal, replicating the earlier achievement. The goal was initially contested because the referee hesitated, but when the video assistant referee (VAR) verified it, happy scenes broke out on the team’s bench.
Al Ahli vs Al Riyadh: Head to Head
In the 52nd minute, Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez scored Al Ahli’s third goal after receiving a pass from Frank Kessie and finishing it well in the goal.
The Senegalese goalkeeper Eduardo Mendy showed great skill for Al-Ahli, blocking multiple attempts by Riyadh to close the difference.
Coach Jaissle brought on Brazilian Roberto Firmino in the 82nd minute, and although he made an effort, he was unable to end his goal drought that dated back to the first round.
Before the game, Al Riyadh had 11 points, continuing their losing run for the second straight round following three successful outcomes.
