Manager Jorge Jesus of Al Hilal praised the 2023–24 season as “spectacular” following the team’s 4–1 victory over Al Hazem at the King Fahd Stadium, Riyadh to secure the Roshn Saudi League championship. With this victory, Al Hilal maintained their unblemished record for the season and won their 19th Saudi Arabian league title, all while putting on a strong showing. With three games remaining, the win—which included goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Ahmed Aljuwayd’s own goal, and Aleksandar Mitrovic for a brace—put Al Hilal twelve points ahead of their nearest rivals, Al Nassr. Al Hilal has not only gone undefeated this season, but they have also won 34 straight games in all competitions, setting a global record.

Al Hilal Coach Jorge Jesus Celebrates

Jesus expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “What we have achieved is an example for all others. We are leading in goals scored, have the have the fewest conceded, and have the most points. Besides winning the league, we are Super Cup winners and in the semi-finals of the King’s Cup. We only fell short in the Asian Champions League.”

He also considered the team’s successes in spite of setbacks, such as the absence of key players like Mitrovic and Neymar.

Jesus reiterated his resolve to uphold strict standards, evoking memories of his prosperous seasons with Flamengo in Brazil and Benfica in Portugal.

“We prepared from the beginning of the season to achieve this, even while missing key players,” he added.

At Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, there was an exciting first half that saw all of the goals versus Al Hazem. Mitrovic scored the first goal from the penalty spot, and Faiz Selemani equalized later on. Milinkovic-Savic, who also scored a goal for Al Hilal with Mitrovic, put pressure on Aljuwayd to give Al Hilal the lead again quickly.

Looking forward, Jesus warned against complacency ahead of their next game against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in the Riyadh Derby and the upcoming King’s Cup final. “Preparing is not about giving rest. We still have more titles to pursue, and every match is crucial,” he noted.

Saleh Al Mohammadi, the coach of Al Hazem, recognized Al Hilal’s strength and attributed the defeat to individual mistakes as well as the superior quality of the champions.
