Odion Ighalo, a former Nigerian international, scored a hat-trick to help Al Wehda defeat Damac FC 4-2 on Thursday in the Saudi Professional League to go back on the winning track.

Odion Ighalo hat trick: Al Wehda vs Damac

Al Wehda scored the game’s opening goal through Ighalo in the 17th minute at the King Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium in Makkah. The advantage, however, only lasted 19 minutes when the visitors tied the score six minutes after the half-hour mark when Assan Ceesay defeated Abdulquddus Atiah in the Al Wehda goal post.

Damac was reduced to 10 men after Noor Al-Rashidi was given a red card, the hosts regained the lead in the opening minute of extra time when Ighalo scored his second goal of the game from the penalty spot. With a 2-1 halftime score, Al Wehda had the advantage over both teams going into the break. They increased their advantage when Ighalo, who was named the game’s MVP, completed his hat trick in the 52nd minute.
In the 62nd minute, Australian winger Craig Goodwin scored Al Wehda’s fourth goal with a right-footed strike from the middle of the opposition’s box. When Sultan Faqihi scored a consolation goal in the 83rd minute, 10-man Damac battled and succeeded in gaining a point in the 76th minute.

Damac was unable to score again, and Al Wehda held on for a convincing victory. With nine points from six games as a result of the outcome, Al Wehda has moved up to seventh place on the table, while Damac is now in 16th place and third from the bottom. On Thursday, Damac will play Al Hilal, and the following day, Al Wehda will host Abha at Sports City Stadium.

Ighalo also joined Cristiano Ronaldo of Al Nassr, Roberto Firminho of Al Ahli, Malcom, and Aleksandr Mitrovic of Al Hilal as the fifth player to score a hat-trick in the league this year.
